Brighton Rock (1947)

Director: John Boulting
Cast: Richard Attenborough, Hermione Baddeley, William Hartnell

Boulting's adaptation of Graham Greene's 1938 novel is dark, grimy and quintessentially British. The story follows vicious gang leader Pinky as he ties to cover up the murder of his former best friend, exposing the seedy underbelly of the seaside resort. Its an uncomfortable, yet intensely watchable viewing experience.
