ED-209 to return in RoboCop remake!

The 2013 remake of RoboCop is already generating rather a lot of buzz. Now a new viral video from 'Omnicorp' signals a tip of the cap in the direction of Paul Verhoeven's original.

Yup, that's the Peter Weller RoboCop's rival ED209, that of the struggling down stairways and shooting up guys in boardrooms.

We enjoyed the use of The Weyland corporation as a viral tool in the run-up to  Prometheus so we'll see where this viral sequence takes us. For now it's interesting to see some action inclination from a movie that appears to be taking a more thoughtful line than the 1987 bullet-fest.

Director José Padilha has talked about a more psychological approach to Verhoeven, stating that his RoboCop takes place during the creation of RoboCop himself with Gary Oldman playing key role as Robo's creator.

The only thing that will be better are the effects, i feel these reboots are being made for the younger generation who are so shallow nowadays and have no appreciation for the older classic movies, my teenage daughter is a perfect example of this as when i watch some older movies with superimposed stop motion animation, her attitude is that looks so fake, so the movie is rubbish.

Why oh why do they have to keep remaking classic films? Have they totally run out of original ideas that they have to look back at amazing films and wreck them?

All the sequels were complete rubbish compared to the original masterpiece. I do hope that any new film will include the quirky, sly humour that was regularly injected into the original, and also dare to break new ground - for heaven's sake let's not have beetling brows in dark, shadowy hi-tech labs, not angst-ridden conversations and/or analysis, nor peering at computer screens, nor telephone conversations nor any of these filler gimmicks. An action film like the original with 10-15 minutes of thoughtfulness, tops. Please.

The original Robocop was all about a dead cop resurrected as a cyborg and regaining his humanity.  The remake is about a dead cop resurrected as a cyborg and losing his humanity.

I believe this shows the shocking decline in morals in the last 25 years.

Besides which this plotline was already done in AD Police, so no originality either.
