The Dark Knight Rises: trailer #3 revealed!

"I'm Gotham's reckoning." Wow! The power of Bane foreshadows a bleak ending for our hero in the latest trailer.

Bat fever is sweeping the internet like never before with the release of this full-length trailer, which finally allows us to start pulling the plot elements together.

Of course, we're no closer to answering the big question. Will Batman make it? There isn't really a hint here. The mask, held in Bane's hand has been seen before at the end of the previous trailer and on the first poster.

Here are some observations.

0.15 - These aerial shots are from the 'Prologue' we were shown last year. Full account of this opening sequence can be read here.

0.50 - 'Gotham's reckoning' (who, by the way, now has a much clearer vocal) is unleashing a wave of terror the likes of which the city has never seen before.

0.55 - “Did they kill him?” “I’m not sure.” Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) appears to have come to Joseph Gorgon Levitt's detective character to discuss the abduction/kidnapping of Bruce Wayne. Is Ra's Al Ghul involved in this? We never see Liam Neeson.

1.35 - "I've buried enough members of the Wayne family." A long period in which Bruce Wayne is absent from Gotham is starting to take shape. No Wayne. No Batman. And chaos is unleashed.

1.40 - “You don’t owe these people any more. You’ve given them everything.” Batman's reply is perhaps the biggest foreteller of his demise so far. "Not everything. Not yet." Chills....

2.15 - BAT JET! BAT JET BAT JET!!! OMG!! Clearly Bats gets his budget back later on in events.

A couple of thoughts

Is anyone else surprised at just how 'front and centre' Catwoman is in this one? She was the first character we were shown and now we're understanding why. We see a brief snippet of her and Batman fighting alongside one another at 1.57. Right now it appears she starts out evil but turns to the good. Is she the new saviour of Gotham? If Bats doesn't make it, someone will need to take the reins.

A couple of characters remain hidden. We only see the briefest glimpse of Marion Cotillard's character kissing Bruce Wayne at 1.53. And Ra's Al Ghul is entirely unrevealed. That chant we hear at 2.06 is to do with his followers.

If I had to guess whether Batman makes it, I would still say yes. But his days as the saviour of Gotham are done by the end.

My theory only!

Don't be surprised.  There is going be a Nolan twist.  Bane is actually Ras Al Ghul.  He came back to finish the job...again!  Ras survived /escaped the train wreck at the end of Batman Begins.  His hair got burned off and he has severe burns throughout his body which is why he uses the inhaler.  The inhaler pumps medication of steroid type to null the pain.  And we know that steroids enhances muscles which is why he is big.  Took some time to recover and come up with a new plan which fits the story line of being 8 years after.  Insead of using economics to take down Gotham, Bane / Ras went back to brute force. That is Talia and she will help her father / Bane take Gotham down.  The fight scene is in the Batcave because Ras / Bane knows Bruce is Batman and where the Batcave is.  He burned down Wayne Manor in the first film.  The mansion was rebuilt in the same place so of course he knows where Bruce lives.

Like I said, just a theory!

Looking forward to this, my only concern is that there is a hint back to the comic books at the end with Batman and Catwoman.  I do feel that Chris Nolan and crew were really pushed to come up with a good final film and I do think it will be good, but must have been tough for them.

For now I will reserve any final judgment and just be excited to see the film.

Who is Batman? Who is the dark knight?

Well the clue was, when Christian Bale played him, that both Batman and Bruce Wayne had a cleft tongue.

I spotted it easily. Ruined the film for me.

Is Joseph GordonLevitt the new Batman?

Is he the Batman that rises after Bruce Wayne's fall?
