It’s the first movie franchise to have one of its creations considered, and rejected, at The White House. Over 25,000 American fans have been petitioning The White House to build a death star, signing an open letter stating that job creation, space exploration and national defence could all benefit from the construction of a death star, as seen destroying Alderaan in Part IV. And wouldn’t you know it, the Obama administration has responded! Here was the verdict on the petition as delivered by Paul Shawcross, Chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget. The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn’t on the horizon. Here are a few reasons: • The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We’re working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it. • The Administration does not support blowing up planets. • Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship? Put Bin Laden and the re-election to one side. THIS is the Obama adminstration’s greatest triumph and an epic LOL if ever we saw one. Now what else can we petition them for? Comments on postcard (or below if you can’t be bothered)…never heard of anything so rediculous as a petition to obama to build a death star he was right to reject it we want to improve the world not blooming well destroy itBlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=06cd7320-b7c7-4ec9-aa98-4dbfb2edc2aaMan Of Steel picture hints at all-out war! This new shot of Henry Cavill as Superman in Man Of Steel, headed your way this Summer, hints at an all-out war between humankind and the forces of General Zod (Michael Shannon).Sat, 05 Jan 2013 14:40:53 -0800Ed_Holden53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d2106cd7320-b7c7-4ec9-aa98-4dbfb2edc2aaBlogArticle4F101C6800E024C6412013-01-05T14:54:59.94This new shot of Henry Cavill as Superman in Man Of Steel, headed your way this Summer, hints at an all-out war between humankind and the forces of General Zod (Michael Shannon). The most anticipated blockbuster of the year will continue to drip-feed hungry Superman fans a stream of videos, images and story details over the coming months.   This new image shows Henry Cavill's Superman in Man Of Steel with what appears to be a human army behind him. As a member of staff attempted to calm him down, he unexpectedly began relieving himself on the carpet.   As shocked passengers and staff looked on, the upcoming star was wrestled to the ground and cuffed by police. This will mean a second court date for Pelletier on top of his existing scheduled court appearance for crystal meth and cocaine possession.   His spokesman told TMZ that Pelletier "realises he has issues and will be entering a treatment programme for addiction in the near future".   The footage is as stark an image of a troubled young celebrity (Pelletier is only 25) as you're likely to see this year. Yeah we're calling this one early!Don't be hard on him, he's a celebrity.  Sell him all the drugs and alcohol he needs and send him over here to the island of Rockall at his expense, the natives could do with a good laugh. He can pee into the wind all day and nobody would give a damn.BlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=e1e24281-1a7f-4b5d-9841-582a6093371fIron Man is hurt in new Iron Man 3 imageRobert Downey's Iron Man is going to be pushed to the limit in Iron Man 3, as evidenced by this new still.Fri, 21 Dec 2012 07:41:32 -0800Ed_Holden53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d21e1e24281-1a7f-4b5d-9841-582a6093371fBlogArticle4F101C6800E024C6112012-12-21T14:58:03.733Robert Downey's Iron Man is going to be pushed to the limit in Iron Man 3, as evidenced by this new still.Look at all the wear and tear on that Iron Man helmet!   Known for making it through with a cocky certainty that all will be well, Robert Downey's Iron Man will be having a tougher time of it than ever in Iron Man 3.   We love the comic book pane look of this new still.   Looks like Downey will be having a tougher time than ever at the hands of Ben Kingsley (The Mandarin) and Guy Pearce (Aldrich Killian).   Iron Man 3 reaches us on 26 April. It looks bad but i bet he makes it.BlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=7a5c831a-7d00-4502-9aac-0d0377aa3f10Star Trek Into Darkness: Footage reactionI was lucky enough to catch the first nine minutes of footage from the highly anticipated 2013 blockbuster Star Trek Into Darkness.Tue, 08 Jan 2013 15:17:07 -0800Ed_Holden53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d217a5c831a-7d00-4502-9aac-0d0377aa3f10BlogArticle4F101C6800E024C614142012-12-14T13:04:09.73I was lucky enough to catch the first nine minutes of footage from the highly anticipated 2013 blockbuster Star Trek Into Darkness. We begin in London in the year 2259, allowing JJ Abrams’ I-Max camera to sweep across a pretty amazing futuristic vision of the capital (we still have trees to go along with massive buildings and flying cars).   Noel Clarke (great part for him) is just about to give up on his terminally ill daughter when a sinister voice says “I can save her”. Yes, new villain Benedict Cumberbatch is about to leverage himself a new henchman. Yes, Cumberbatch, widely rumoured to be playing Khan (as in ‘Wrath Of’) is already a bit terrifying.   Cut to Class M Planet Nibiru, where our heroes Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) are escaping some hostile natives in a bizarre red forest. Meanwhile Spock (Zachary Quinto) is attempting to save the planet by dropping a ‘super ice cube’ into the volcano that’s about to blow them all to smitherines.   Sound like Star Trek much to you!? There’s definitely a nod to the original TV series in the way we launch straight into this planetary emergency scenario.   As you can imagine, it looks spectacular. Producer Bryan Burk told us that JJ Abrams fell in love with 3D and I-Max (in which the whole movie is shot) when he was introduced to the new technology and he’s actively pushing the boundaries here.   “Our villain is much stronger this time round,” Burk reports. And it’s true, Cumberbatch looks amazing in the brief flash we saw.   Currently billed as a character called John Harrison (though the weight of Khan rumours is pretty conclusive), Cumberbatch appears chuffed with his new villain. “He’s a terrorist. He does despicable things for what he thinks are good purposes,” he told us at the screening. “He’s a one-man army of destruction,” he added. And we can’t wait to see more of him!If this film is half as a good as the 2009 film, we are gonna be in for a real treat, can't wait.BlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=efafd0da-1661-492c-a140-60489e44bd3bStar Trek Into Darkness poster releasedTue, 04 Dec 2012 08:55:04 -0800Ed_Holden53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d21efafd0da-1661-492c-a140-60489e44bd3bBlogArticle4F101C6800E024C6112012-12-03T09:41:25.52The first poster for Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) has been released. This new artwork, depicting Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) back home on a destroyed planet earth, is accompanied by the following plot outline. In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.   When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.   With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.   As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Good luck JJ Abrams and crew. Can't wait! They just can't let that 9/11 **** go, can they. Kristel had cancer and suffered a stroke in July. Sylvia Kristel will be best remembered for Emmanuelle, the famous erotic film sometimes labelled ‘soft porn’. It told the story of a sexually promiscuous housewife and was so popular that it played in some French cinemas for a decade. Emmanuelle was considered a breakthrough movie for erotic cinema. In the UK it was given an ‘x’ rating by censors and was cut heavily before its release. Kristel went on to star in several Emmanuelle sequels and more erotic films such as Lady Chatterly's Lover and Mata Hari.   There seems to be a sad reaction on Twitter from those who have 'fond memories' of the star and Emmanuelle.RIP-Sylvia thank you for the wonderful memories a generation of boys to men of this world salute you.BlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=426ee0f4-12b5-4469-911d-bbf74c98539fIs this the creepiest movie spoof trailer ever?Forget Seven Psychopaths, we'd like to introduce you to Seven PsychoCats...Fri, 14 Dec 2012 08:12:37 -0800Ed_Holden53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d21426ee0f4-12b5-4469-911d-bbf74c98539fBlogArticle4F101C6800E024C6112012-10-09T08:49:15.333Forget Seven Psychopaths, we'd like to introduce you to Seven PsychoCats...Are you ready to see Christopher Walken as you've never seen him before? But it's unheard of across the pond.Look who's just arrived in the US of A? It's The Inbetweeners, promoting their original Inbetweeners movie, which never received a US release. Following its gigantic box office success in the UK, the popular (former) teenagers will be hoping to pick up some traction in the US.   We're certainly hoping they'll go down better than The Inbetweeners US TV show, which certainly appears to have failed to capture the humour of our lads.   Word reached our ears lately that the producers are hoping to make the sequel with the lads. No comment on the second Inbetweeners flick (Uni days?) at this little photocall. But you can bet the second movie becomes a lot more likely if this one picks up some traction in the US.HOPE TO SEE A SEQUEL WITH THE BOYS AS THE FILM WAS A LAUGH ,,,BlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=a497fa2a-2e3e-4be7-8585-9d59d9370342New Life Of Pi poster revealedWe're still fascinated to find out how Ang Lee is going to handle an adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling novel. There appears to be a new Hollywood trend appearing: movies with the main character MIA. Take the Bourne movies, for example. Jason Bourne was at the epicenter of the Bourne money-spinner, but this August Jeremy Renner is Bourne again as Aaron Cross – the new male lead.   Hurt Locker and Ghost Protocol's charismatic hardman Renner comes off the subs bench for Matt Damon as the super-spy franchise keeps free-running and gunning without Bourne’s presence. And now it’s been announced Kristen Stewart will not be the main focus of the huge Snow White and the Huntsmen’s sequel – with rumours circulating she might not be in it at all. After revealing her affair with SWATHM director, Rupert Sanders, it seems R-Patz isn’t all Kristen might’ve lost. The 22-year-old played the lead character of Snow White in SWATHM, but Universal have said that the sequel will instead focus on the character of the Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth. Oh K-Stew! It turns out Snow White isn’t such a fairy tale after all. How long can this trend continue? What’s next – Batman without the masked hero himself? A Bond movie without 007 making an appearance? Jurassic Park without any dinosaurs? What a preposterous thought. Let’s buck this trend, yeah Hollywood?totally ga gaBlogArticlehttp://movies.uk.msn.com/blog/editor-blogpost.aspx?post=5e5cc2ec-ed7c-4883-a776-2df4d74341d6MSN Movies gets Brave with a bow and arrowEat your heart out Katniss Everdeen – MSN Movies’ Emma Roberts showed off her bow and arrow skills at an archery experience day to celebrate the release of Pixar’s latest movie, Brave.Mon, 13 Aug 2012 01:16:02 -0700Emma Ents53966cad-6a12-4c07-a69e-f753048d1d215e5cc2ec-ed7c-4883-a776-2df4d74341d6BlogArticleDF4DCBC832838B2B012012-08-13T08:16:02.82Eat your heart out Katniss Everdeen – MSN Movies’ Emma Roberts showed off her bow and arrow skills at an archery experience day to celebrate the release of Pixar’s latest movie, Brave.By Emma Roberts I hope you appreciate this article. Not because it’s a Shakespearean masterpiece (although I wouldn’t say it’s far off) but because of the colossal length of time that it has taken me to write. It’s not the subject matter that has swallowed the hours away but the fact that I am having to type with just one hand. You see, my left arm has been pretty much out of use for the past 24 hours thanks to archery-induced arm strain. Ouch. Still, despite having to eat my dinner with one hand and adopting a fairly questionable driving position (I swear I could hear my old driving instructor yelling the words ’ten and two’ when I was cruising home) I have to say that my archery experience day was well worth it! To celebrate the launch of Pixar’s latest movie Brave, Disney invited a group of journalists to test their bow and arrow skills at a target range in north London. Thinking myself as a bit of a Katniss Everdeen or even a Legolas from Lord of The Rings, I jumped at the chance to get acquainted with a bow and arrow. After all, if Jennifer Lawrence can do it, surely I could too? I strutted on to the target range thinking that my first shot would be a perfect bullseye and everyone would applaud me gleefully. My cockiness was soon diminished though after my first arrow failed to hit the target. When I say failed, I mean that my wayward arrow probably hit a cow in the field beside ours. I found out the hard way that archery is actually very difficult! Things didn’t get better when the journo next to me seemed to be a wood elf in disguise – she got a near perfect shot almost every time. Well, there’s nothing like a spot of sport to bring out you’re competitive nature and I made sure I listened to the instructor’s every word as he guided me through my next shot. I suppose he didn’t want any more cow casualties. See pictures from the movie Brave! Hurray! I finally managed to hit the target, but at the cost of my feeble arm muscles. Archery may look easy, but it makes you work muscles that you never thought you had! (Or maybe, the problem in my case was that I didn’t actually have the muscles in the first place. Note to self: go to the gym.) We were also joined by Becky Martin, who, at only 16 years old, is one of the best archers in the country. With her huge, curly locks, she couldn’t help but remind me of Merida, the main character from Brave. Like Merida, Becky was amazing with her bow and arrow – she made Legolas look like, well… me.   What’s more, her bow looked like it was some sort of futuristic alien weapon, making my bow (which was called Anita) look a little lame. Bow envy aside, as the day went on, my archery skills improved and, although I came second to last in the competition (I swear some of the journalists were members of a secret archery society) I had a fantastic time. In fact, maybe when I watch the movie Brave, I can take down some notes from Merida’s archery scenes and become even better. Then again, maybe I’ll leave the sharp-shooting for the stronger-armed journalists out there! Brave is out in cinemas across the UK now. No cows were harmed in the making of this blog. I don’t think.By Emma Roberts I hope you appreciate this article. James' best-seller to the big screen, musing on casting options and the story's similarities to some of his own writing.   His enthusiasm for the widely panned novel has been met with curiosity in many quarters, but now he won't be involved. He tweeted that he had been 'taken off the list': Ellis' announcement was shortly followed by the news that Fifty Shades Of Grey has become the fastest-selling British book ever (EL James is from London, though the novel is set in Seattle), bewildering some fans who consider it poorly written.books should be escapism and for most woman the chance to put your feet up with a cuppa and a book that puts a smile on your face and that is so far removed from cleaning the loo and washing and the school run gets a thumbs up from me and this is that ... Sky, though, are stealing its thunder by premiering this 2010 dramatisation of those same events, with Famke Janssen as an FBI agent suspicious of the happy family reunion. Terminator 3 star Nick Stahl – who rather spookily went missing himself earlier this year – takes a supporting role.   The Raven Available on: LoveFilm   John Cusack sports some distinctive facial hair in his role as Edgar Allan Poe in this gory thriller, which sees the debauched author teaming up with a dogged policeman (Clash of the Titans’ Luke Evans) to hunt down a copycat killer who models his crimes on those in Poe’s Gothic fictions. Alice Eve is a damsel in distress due to a murderer’s ministrations in a mystery that might make you pause the next time you pass a library or bookstore.   Retreat Available on: Netflix   If you enjoyed Cillian Murphy’s cameo in The Dark Knight Rises, you may enjoy seeing him take a meatier role in this psychological drama about a married couple whose visit to a remote island off the Scottish coast is unsettled by the arrival of a young and potentially dangerous soldier (Jamie Bell). Claiming that a deadly virus has swept the mainland, this mysterious stranger stokes a tense atmosphere that starts to impact negatively on Cillian’s relationship with wife Thandie Newton.   Salute Available on: LoveFilm   With the Olympics in full swing, you might not have much of an appetite for an Olympic documentary. If you do, however, you are certain to be captivated by the story of the two African-American athletes whose clenched fist salute caused such a hoo-hah at the 1968 Games in Mexico City and how the third man on the podium, Australian silver medalist Peter Norman, came to play a pivotal role in their protest. The director, Matt Norman, is Peter’s nephew.   Soul Surfer Available on: Sky Movies   Another true story drawn from the world of sports forms the basis to this inspirational US drama about a 13-year-old surfer who loses her arm in a shark attack. How she found the strength to get back on her board and return to competition will warm the heart, provided you don’t mind the sentimental wholesomeness that coats the movie like a thick layer of syrup. AnnaSophia Robb is the courageous heroine while Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt play her parents. The Chameleon Available on: Sky Movies   There’s a great film called The Imposter coming out this month based on the true story of a Frenchman who passed himself off as an American teen who had been missing for three years. Here are my thoughts.   0.22 – “Take the bloody shot”. There’s an ambiguity to Judi Dench’s M in this trailer. Is she ordering Bond’s death here. The line “I made a judgement call,” suggests she is. This train-top scene was shown to fans at Comic-Con and adored by pretty much everyone. 0.40 – “Enjoying death.” Is anyone else slightly reminded of the opening of Rambo III by this scene? 0.50 – It’s Q! We’re all looking forward to Ben Whishaw taking on the legendary role. 1.06 – The Macau Casino scene looks stunning, as does Berenice Marlohe. 1.30 – Creepy, creepy, creepy Javier Bardem makes his appearance in blonde. We’re guessing that he’s wielding some kind of tech-villainy by the looks of the racks of computers lining the walls. 1.49 – “Mommy was very bad.” He’s implying that M wanted to kill Bond. But is he lying? What follows is thirty seconds of out-and-out action that I don’t even want to start deciphering.   The only worry is that we’re seeing a little too much. Don’t get me wrong though.
