Every now and then a piece of happy news falls in our lap. Today is one of those days. Sacha Baron Cohen will make the movie of Saddam Hussein's book Zabibah And The King in 2012!

By Ed Holden 20/01/2011 16:15

The movie will be called The Dictator and seems will be based on Saddam's only book.

We were starting to worry that Sacha Baron Cohen was calling it a day with movies. He's talked about stopping and it's not as if he really needs the money.

But no, in a bid to perhaps be even more offensive than he was in Borat and Bruno, SBC will take on the late Iraqi despot in 2012. And no, he's not doing it seriously.

Early word has it that the movie will be based on Zabibah And The King - a book supposedly (but not at all definitel) written by Saddam Hussein about a peasant girl and a powerful Iraqi ruler back in Medieval times.

No doubt Baron Cohen will be going to levels of risk we can only imagine with this. How the whole Saddam element will be handled is still unclear. But, with Sacha's Bruno/Borat director Larry Charles calling the shots, it's bound to be a stirrer.

More details as they emerge on this breaking story.

The Dark Knight Rises has its villains.

By Ed Holden 20/01/2011 11:33

Anne Hathaway has been known as a sugar-coated all-American beauty, suited to playing good girls and lovestruck romantic leads.

But we're feeling this casting decision from Christopher Nolan. We can imagine Hathaway turning to the dark side, those big street lamp eyes turning all villainous. If The Dark Knight was anything to go by, the villains will be tortured souls with shades of light and dark, so it's not all about being as evil as possible.

Of course, Catwoman has been a poisoned chalice for one Halle Berry. But Anne is in the hands of Christopher "100%" Nolan so I'm sure she won't be worried about that.

As for Tom Hardy, we're hoping his rough edge can carry across into Bane just as it did Bronson. Of course, Nolan trusts him following the excellent turn in Inception.

More on The Dark Knight Rises right here as news emerges.

Andrew Garfield ('s stunt double) shows us some spidey-skills!

By Ed Holden 19/01/2011 16:15

TMZ has posted the first action footage from the Spider-man set.

Sure, it looks a bit rubbish on this giggling guy's phone. But we're betting the real thing is going to look pretty slick. Check out the size of that camera truck!

Somehow we knew that Ricky Gervais would cause a stir at this year's Golden Globes...

By Ed Holden 17/01/2011 12:13

Ricky GervaisOne of Britain’s finest comedic exports, Ricky Gervais hosted this year’s Golden Globes for the second year in a row and, while we were chuckling at his controversial jokes, over the pond we have an inkling some people might have been a tad offended.

Take The Washington Post’s headline for example, which subtly read “Bring us the head of Ricky Gervais”.

So what exactly did Mr Gervais say to cause so much offence? Well, we had our ears pricked waiting for some fine Rickyisms of the evening and here they are for your Monday morning entertainment…

'It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it – breakfast. Wow, so let's get this straight, so what he did was, he picked up a porn star, paid her to have dinner with him, introduced her to his ex-wife – as you do – went to a hotel, got drunk, got naked, trashed the place while she was locked in a cupboard, and that was a Monday. What does he do New Year's Eve?'

'It was a big year for 3D movies. Toy Story, Despicable Me, Tron,' he said. 'It seemed like everything this year was three-dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist. I already feel bad about that joke. I tell you what, I'm jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven't even seen The Tourist. Who has? But it must be good because it's nominated, so shut up, OK? And I'd like to crush this ridiculous rumour that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the foreign press of could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That was not the only reason; they also accepted bribes.'

‘Also not nominated, I Love You Phillip Morris. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay, so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then… Probably. My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.’

(When introducing Bruce Willis): ’Ashton Kutcher’s Dad – Bruce Willis.’

(Asking if anyone had been to see Cher performing recently): ‘No. Why not? Because it's not 1975.’

(On J-Lo) ‘She's just Jenny from the block. If the block in question is that one on Rodeo Drive between Cartier and Prada.’

‘He's the star of Iron Man, Two Girls and a Guy, Wonder Boys. Sorry, are these porn films? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Bowfinger. Really! Up the Academy… . He has done all those films, but many of you in this room probably know [Robert Downey Jr.] from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail.’

‘Talking of the walking dead, congratulations to Hugh Hefner, who is getting married at age 84 to 24-year-old beauty Crystal Harris. When asked why she was marrying him, she said, "He lied about his age. I thought he was 94." Calm down. Just don't look at it when you touch it.’

(To Sex And The City 2 Cast): ‘I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects team would go to the team that airbrushed that poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza.’

Andrew Garfield is snapped on-set with Emma Stone.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone on the set of the new Spiderman film ©GSI/Barcroft mediaIf you’re a fan of a certain sticky superhero, then you’ll be pleased to know that filming for the new Spider-man film has finally kicked off...

Andrew Garfield will be taking over from Tobey McGuire as the lycra-clad crime-fighter and these brand-spanking new pictures show him on-set with Emma Stone.

Emma, who will be playing Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy, appears to be sharing a joke with Andrew and the on-screen lovers are also pictured kissing…The two co-stars share a kiss on-set ©GSI/Barcroft media

Andrew has made no secret of the fact that he is delighted to take on the role – in a recent interview, the 27-year old said:

“We have such an amazing cast, so I'm in heaven playing this role. I feel like a kid in the candy store, I'm one lucky boy I tell you."

On wearing the famous spandex spidey-suit Andrew revealed:

“It's strange and surreal to be wearing it and I won't lie, I actually shed a tear when I first wore the spandex for the first time. I didn't expect to get so emotional but I did."

Andrew, who recently appeared alongside Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg in the box office smash The Social Network, also revealed he was nervous about stepping into Tobey McGuire’s shoes as the superhero. He said:

"It means as much to me as it does to everyone else. I can objectively look at myself and be like, 'You better not screw this up man. I'm going to be so p*ssed off with you if you do'."
