Liam Neeson: I'm a big wuss in real life!
He's Ireland's most successful export (after Guinness, of course). We're talking to the one, the only: Liam Neeson. Known for his roles in Star Wars, The Chronicles of Narnia, Love Actually and Taken, the 60-year-old actor is a legend in many people's eyes.
Well MSN Movies found him. And we did chat to him. Here are the highlights from our chat with the accomplished Mr Neeson:
MSN: How does the main story line differ from the first?
Liam: Well I don't want to give the story away completely. But my family are under threat again in Istanbul, Turkey and there are certain gentleman coming for revenge for what I did to their sons and brother in the first film
Jay: Hey Liam - What's the Guinness like in Istanbul?
Liam: I never had any! The local wine was quite good.
Dean: Liam. My sister is having a Liam Neeson-themed party for her birthday. She's coming in fancy dress as Qui-gon and I know her friends are all dressing up as Rob Roy so who the devil should I come as? (P.S. not Aslan please - my nanna has called dibs on Aslan.)
Liam: The Priest from Gangs of New York!
Daniel: Liam I have no question I just wanted to say that you are a legend.
Robert: Did you do your own stunts for the follow up big man?
Liam: I don't do my own stunts but I do my own fighting in both films.
Lavo: Hello Liam. My late father John Lavery was managing director of Murphy's in Ballymena when you drove a forklift truck there. Now when I used to be in awe of you in movies he said you couldn't be doing your own stunts as you had difficulty even driving the truck in a straight line because your nose was always in a book!!! ;o) any truth??
Liam: Yeah certainly when there were gaps and production, Guinness production, I'd be reading a book. John was a good boss. I'm sorry to hear of his demise.
Paul: Hi Liam, Did you do any special training for your fight scenes? You certainly look very mean when in action.Liam: Yes! There was a lot of fight training on a daily basis through the whole shoot. And nobody got hurt.
Tara: Hi Liam, my question is: out of all of the roles you have played, which character is most similar to you as a person?
Liam: I guess there's a little bit of me in all of the characters I've played, it's hard not to avoid that.
Joyce: If you could play any Irish person/hero in a film who would it be and why?
Liam: Well I did with Michael Collins. He was a particular hero. Cuchulain! (Spelling?) A mythical Irish hero.
Herbs: Hello, what would you advise for people wanting to be an actor/ extra?
Liam: I would say try and do something else... Please remember that 75% of actors are unemployed all the time.
Maxim: How often when people meet you, do they plead you to say that killer quote from Taken?
Liam: It's happened a few times. My sons have in the past have asked me to leave that quote on their friends' cellphones.
Daytona: what's the film you're most proud of.
Liam: Well there's a few - Michael Collins, Schindler's List, The Grey, These two Taken films actually. Dark Man too.
Shelley: I honestly think it should be made compulsory to see 'Taken!' Do you prefer the big, action roles? Would you like to do more comedy or kids films?
Liam: I like to mix it up. Studio movies, independent films. And whatever that genre is, as long as the scripts are well written.
Jeff: who is the toughest actor you have met?
Liam: I'd say Clint Eastwood.
Sam: If you could have chosen any movie role what would it have been ?
Liam: Hmm, that I didn't get? Rambo?! First Blood. I wasn't up for it but I'd have loved to have played it.
Petite Princess: Liam, please will you come to Blackpool with me and my mates on 29th Sep for my birthday!!!!!!!!
Liam: I'm still promoting Taken 2 otherwise I'd be there!
Phil: really enjoyed the sketch with Ricky Gervais
Liam: It was great fun being with Ricky, and it was a well written sketch.
Lyric Lover: Do you reckon we might ever see a sequel to Dark Man?
Liam: They made two sequels to Dark Man, I wasn't in them, and they made a couple.
Mike: how much influence did you have in the way Bryan Mills is portrayed.
Liam: I had quite a lot, it was my persona, my creation I guess. I think he's level, he's an over protective father and I think a lot of people can identify with that.
MSN: which country do you enjoy spending time in the most?
Liam: I'd say France!
Knoxy: Liam why are you so awesome?
Liam: (Laughs) Thanks for the compliment but I'm really a big wuss?!
Dan: I would love to hear a conversation between you and Morgan Freeman. Epic voices
Karl: do you feel your norn iron accent helped or hindered your career?
Liam: Well it certainly wasn't a hindrance, because I can modify it and change it.
Hayley: Hi Liam, you're one of my favourite actors, if I'm ever in trouble will you come and save me :)
Liam: Sure, give me the address!
Alice: Would you ever consider being a James Bond villain? Ps you are awesome!
Liam Neeson: Yeah, absolutely. I'd love to.
MSN Movies' Ed Holden with legend Liam Neeson
Tabassum: You are a very convincing action hero. What kind of role would you shy away from.
Liam: Prissy, English upper class twits.
Jamesc: do you use anti-ageing products? as I am 25 and you look younger than me! Ha
Liam: I believe in good sun screen.
Tommy: If you could act in/direct a film about any topic at all, what would it be about?
Liam: Well I have no interest in directing, however, being an avid reader, I'm going through a series of theseNorwegian/Swedish murder mysteries I'd love to act in one or two of those.
Jamie: please tell me who won in the final fight of the grey? You or the big bad wolf?
Liam: Well I think I have to be honest and say we both met our demise at the same time.
Twitchy: what sort of music do you like, l watched Luke Kelly years ago, fantastic singer, do you agree
Liam: Yes! I love Luke Kelly. Mumford and Sons, these new guys The Script and Dire Straits, and of course, The Beatles.
James: If you could have taken part in the Olympics this year what event would you have chosen?
Liam: I think the triple jump - it was my favourite athletic sport at school.
Anoo: what was it like playing Zeus?
Liam: It was great fun, not least because I got to play with my buddy Ralph Fiennes who plays my brother Hades and I had a fantastic costume.
Liam (user): what's your fave Dire Strates song. Mines Brother in Arms
Liam: Yeah definitely Brothers in Arms.
Bat: What do you think about Christopher Nolan and his film making?
Liam: I think he's a wonderful director and writer, his scripts are always dark and interesting and psychological. He writes very rich characters with depth.
Lord: hey Liam. Any news on an A-team 2 and do you have a fave football team?
Liam: There will not be an A-team 2 and Liverpool and Man U.
Thank you for the chit chat, you do not have to have seen the first Taken to enjoy Taken 2, you're going to have a great time. Thanks for the appreciation and support.
Oh Liam. You're more than welcome back whenever, Sir! (What a gentleman!)
