| wish that they had ignored another movie - although I wouldn't call it great - that being Iron Lady. Iron she may have been, but lady never in a million years!

Still can't believe that there's no nomination for Alan Rickman. Personally, I found his performance as Severus Snape to be wondeful. But I suppose they've always ignored the Harry Potter movies for any major category nominations...

has anyone heard of a movie called 'mysteries of lisbon'? it's better than any picture nominated or snubbed.

The other thing with films like Drive is that if you say you thought they were rubbish, the fanboys always say you just hate it to be different. So  presumably,  I watched the trailer, read all the good reviews and then went to the expense of going to see it with my young lady just  to be awkward.?

The truth is I liked the trailer, the reviews made it sound interesting and  I thought it was poor. It happens, like that sometimes.

Rarely is great talent recognised by the Oscars, Its all about bums on seats.

I was not convinced by Drive but Shame and We Need to Talk About Kevin are fantastic movies -not easy to watch but cinem ais supposed to be challenging. And I loved The Artist.

My bad, I love the Deer Hunter and films such as the Godfather, Apocalypse now  and a few more films I can name which are a wee bit slow from the beginning. Still, these films dragged me in and  my eyes glued to the the TV.. Classic movies they are as for Drive which is not

Check the synopses out walter hill's The Driver, cross it with The Stuntman, warch Bullet. or any number of films with alienated anti-heroes from about 1968 to about 1980 including  Two Lane Black top. throw in the surface gloss of stuff like American Gigolo and virtually any other Paul Schrader film.  Drive is bits and pieces of stuff cobbled together in a  a retro style that appeals to people who wish they made films like they did in the old days. Where as I say just go and watch an old film, because they are better than watching some gift less twerp impersonating them badly. Drive is liked for same reason Oasis and Primal Scream were popular in the 90s. Low quality control, a refusal to accept that the past is the past and   hype in  right  "hip" circles.

In my opinion the best movie by far in 2011 was Midnight in Paris. If you have not seen it,make a point of seeing it.You will not be disappointed.Next best thing is the DVD which is on in early February,You will not however enjoy the panoramic views of Paris to the dame extent.

@ Daniel - what exactly was Drive re hashed from?
Your a tool, if a film is good you'll hate it for the sake of hating it just to be different.  You just want to look cleaver by using stupid comparisons to convey your irrelevant and bias bull****.

My problem with drive isn't that .s slow. It's that it's rubbish. The claim that it's like 70 or 80s film is pure nonsense. it's relationship to 70s films is about the same as wolfmother's relationship to Led Zep. or  Green Day's relationship to Black Flag : a tired useless rehash of thing s that were done better first time around and certainly don't need up dating for a bunch  of stupid people. who can't tell the difference between the real thing and a load pastiche ridden baloney.

who cares what the academy thinks. film is about what viewer thinks not critics or the academy. loved drive, shame, we have to talk about kevin etc but do not care if they win awards or not.

whoops! made a mistake -it's a man advertising - if he is really rich some gold digger would have him by now whatever he looks like, sounds suspicous to me- as for the oscars it's just an excuse for the rich girlies to buy a new dress
