Spider-Man is back in 2012! The web-slinging wonder will be played by British star Andrew Garfield. Take a look at the sumptuous new footage in the very first trailer.

What an ending! The trailer establishes The Amazing Spider-Man as a complete reboot of the series. We go right back to the beginning and see a down-and-out Peter Parker (Garfield) meeting Gwen Stacey (a blonde Emma Stone). Then a freak accident involving a stray arachnid and the wrong chemicals leads to Parker developing the Spidey-skills we all know and love.

Detractors will criticise the 'videogame' looks of the second half of the trailer, when we see Spidey speed between buildings. But we're fans. The sense of motion in the sequence is fantastic and it doesn't give us the nausea we experienced during Spider-Man 3's swinging sections.

Also appearing in the trailer is Rhys Ifans as Dr Curt Connors: a psycho scientist who tries to regenerate his missing arm in the comic books. He'll be transforming into villain The Lizard, which we don't get a look at here.

With this going up against The Dark Knight, The Hobbit and The Avengers, 2012 will be a big year!

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D by director Marc Webb, will be released on 3 July, 2012.
