Mark Wahlberg somehow seems to carry a whole new level of credibility following The Fighter. Yes, we've seen him do this kind of hard man crime character before (The Departed, Shooter, The Italian Job) but that's no reason not to take an interest in Contraband. Director Baltasar Kormákur is a relative newcomer. But we're loving the sense of style in these new visuals.

Here are our highlights:

0.09: Giovanni Ribisi is the best thing about The Rum Diary, out this week and looks perfect for this. He is a master of playing screw-up characters and he's threatening as hell in this crime villain role.

1.04: "The money's gone!" and out comes the weaponry. Cue nervous standoff with smuggling fiends. We love the tension.

1.33: "Do you understand me!?" Yeah, this trailer is all about Ribisi for us. He's brutal and utterly convincing as he manhandles Kate Beckinsale. Mark Wahlberg was the straight guy to Christian Bale's psycho in The Fighter. Ribisi is the 'out there' guy in this one.

1.42: We're not sure what to make of the slow-mo explosion shot. Are we looking at funky new action camera trickery here? Let's hope it doesn't feel like an add-on from an FX studio.

Contraband - Universal
