I have to admit that I find all of the hype concerning '50 Shades of Grey' extremely funny. There is a whole hoard of middle-aged women who seem to be in a knicker-twisting state of delirium over this S&M tale for vanilla's. I've been a Male Dominant player on the BDSM scene for over 15 years and find it amazing and humorous to see the reaction a bit of spanking or whip play has on the frustrated, reserved and uptight vanilla women of the UK. It's as if all of this 'Grey' stuff is new, but it is very much not new. The exploration of the Male D/s dynamic was done equally well, if not better in 'The Story of O' by  Pauline Réage in the 1950's and the Female D/s dynamic was explored in Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (where S&M is derived). So it's not new at all and the events in 'Grey' are extremely pale in comparison to what actually happens on the BDSM scene and in D/s relationships both Male and Female. However, I do sincerely wish good luck to all you vanilla 'would-be' Sado-Masochists and 'subbies' out there and may reading these books and seeing the forthcoming movie prompt you into exploring and expanding your physical and mental sexual relationships, it will do you the world of good.
