Singer and actor Jared Leto has spoken about his dramatic weight loss for The Dallas Buyers Club.
For the role, which saw him starring alongside Matthew McConaughey, he lost a whopping 30lbs.
Talking to E! online he said: "I got down to 116lbs or something. I just basically didn't eat. I ate very little. I had done similar things with weight, but this was different, I think the role demanded that commitment. It was about how does that effect how I walk, how I talked, who I am, how I feel. You know, you feel very fragile and delicate and unsafe."
He went on to say: "Your organs (and) muscles shrink, your organs shrink, my stomach has shrunk as well. I'm doing cardio but I'll tell you what, the more I've learned is, and I think it comes with age too - is it's 90 percent diet. It's a matter of how much I eat or how little I eat."

He lost the weight to play an AIDS victim in a movie. And some of the comments on here are absolutely disgusting. Scatology is generally the favoured means of communication of spotty, nasty adolescents and shouldn't be shown on this forum. Stupid little morons, can't even spell your swear words!

The guy looks great leave him alone. You have already convinced most women that they must be as thin as a Heroin addict to be acceptable in society now you turn on the guys.
You are just the tool of the Billion dollar industry to do with diets, make up and clothes which cause misery for the under privileged who feel left out without them.
I am sitting as I type in a 10 year old cheap shirt some scruffy second hand leggings and I feel great so go back to your masters and tell them some people with true hearts and clear brains will never be affected by the media bullying of peoples appearances .
I personally thought how much better this guy looked with some weight on.

Leave the man alone. He IS 48, people do change as they get older. I think he looks great. No wonder people are so self concious these days if every zit and chin gets noticed by critics who i know are not exactly supermodels themselves.

Health should far outweigh the money she will be making for her film. It is suicidal to go to these lengths just for fame and fortune. She will be lucky if she has not created an eating disorder for herself after the film. As Mr Norman Burke said below, there are many girls who are suffering from this debilitating illness through no fault of their own, surely some are actresses. I wish your daughter well Mr Burke.

Surely with modern film technology the gaunt thin look can be achieved without starving yourself.
My beautiful 18 year old daughter for the past five years has suffered with the debilitating illness anorexia and nearly died this year.Being very bright and passing 10 'O' levels with A star+. Perhaps
a film director could consider my daughter for a role as with respect to Antonia Campbell Hughes my daughter is equally if not more beautiful albeit suffering greatly.

I did not think that the girl who was held captive was that thin according to the pictures that were released, maybe the actress has gone too far?
She was 10 when kidnapped, so maybe the reason for the weight loss, but given the story around the film which sounds more like a porn movie maybe just as well using a twenty plus actress.
Looking at all the pictures you begin to understand why so many of these people end up with either eating, drug, drink or mental problems

For Gods Sake there is nothing amazing about her weight loss - she is anorexic and this needs pointing out before any other girls think she looks 'amazing' and try to follow suit. She only looks one thing to me and thats ILL !

That does not appear to be simply weight loss for a film, it looks like she has an eating disorder and she looks dangerously ill. Look at her dark, sunken eyes and loss of muscle due to starvation. If you web search this actress, she appears very thin well before any mention of this film role. Sad and shocking. I really hope your daughter gets well, Norman Burke.

He really does look ill. Saw pictures of him a couple of months ago prior to this and thought there was something wrong with him, nothing like the physique he had and in films like Saraha. I hope he is alright and it really is just loss of weight for a film role.

Nothing shocks me here . It is an actors requirement to loose and put on weight randomly and when expected to look real in the movie.It is there trade after all..and a very well paid one. If you were paid a few million for being the lead in a movie wouldn't you do the same.?. I would without any hesitation...It would be my aim in life to make all that lovely money for my family and me..Don't call it greed it is just taking advantage of the situation.. However it just shows how different they look with no fat and fat added to their faces.. I would not have recognised Charlene Theron as Aileen, the serial killer. As Aileen she looks like a normal wife walking through my local. Just shows what a difference a few pounds gained makes one look.. It's quite scary really....But it is refreshing as well to know that we all look rough without the help of cosmetics and great hairstylists.. Oh and daily help to control our waistlines and fitness instructors...Now all that means a lot of money which the common man really cannot afford...

It is one thing to lose weight for a movie, it is another to parade your emaciated body in a piece of fabric that only barely maintains your dignity for the whole world to see. As a nurse who has spent the past 4 years treating those with eating disorders I think it is disgusting to see Antonia Campbell Hughes displaying her skeletal frame in this way, knowing that young impressionable people who may already be struggling will see it.
