Mena Suvari interview on The Knot: ‘We had a blast!’

American Pie and American Beauty star Mena Suvari chatted to us about three weeks of filming the same wedding day in day out (imagine!) on Noel Clarke comedy The Knot.

When people see a wedded couple on a poster we're reminded of a lot of other films. What's different about this one?
What I love is that it's not just a wild exaggerated ride. There's true heart to it and there's a message that comes across. I love my character and the journey she goes on. I loved Noel's style for the movie with a lot of interview-style and a lot of handheld. There's also a real combination of the male perspective and the female perspective. I know in a lot of movies around this subject area we tend to see everything from the female side of things but I really like the way we balanced things up in this one.

Describe a day working on The Knot.
Oh I loved it! I loved being in London again and we all got really close as a cast. The movie happens over one day so I go used to wearing the same clothes with the same hair and makeup every single day. We got into a routine. We'd just get together and play every day. We really had a blast making the movie. It was a fun set to be on and I think the sense of fun comes through on screen.

Do you have any Bridesmaid stories of your own you'd care to share with us?
No nothing like this I'm afraid! I've been a bridesmaid for two of my friends and it's been very sweet and fun and easy and beautiful and all those things. Nothing disastrous like this! This movie has everything that you can think of going wrong going wrong.

What did you think when you first saw the final film?
I thought it was great. It's not only a film where people can have a great time watching it but there's a message there. I found that I could relate a lot of things in this movie to my own life and I felt like I really got to know the characters and the journey that they all went on.

Were you guys going for the big laugh at every turn?
I don't know if that's really for me to say. I just felt like the actors really became their characters and that all the laughs came from that. A lot of things came about at the last minute and that's all just part of the magic that's created on the set.

So The Knot 2?
We'll see. I was touched by this group. I think Noel's found that group of people that he works well with time and again and I really enjoyed being a part of that.
