I didn't actually know of Tony Scoot but I LOVED the movie top gun and I came across this article. It's so sad when anyone reaches that desperate point in their lives where they feel the only option is to end it.
You made an awesome film Tony and by the sound of it many other amazing films too. R.I.P!

omg shock! thoughts are with his family :O( fantastic director! Top Gun, well, what a film! Im still in shock? you hear of famous people passing away of different things but suicide! I know life is hard but you have to be in a different place to contemplate anything like this, rip tony x

Man of Fire is 1 of my favourite films of all time.
So sad for his family, including his equally talented brother, Ridley.

Tragic loss to the world of film. Tony had that rare quality of creating intelligent action films that stay with the viewer long after the credits have rolled. True Romance is a prime example. The way he brought Tarantino's script to celluloid and played so many great character actors off against each remains a joy to watch. Crimson Tide was also a real standout, pitting Gene Hackman and Denzil Washington against each other in that claustrophibic atmosphere and creating a tension fueled tour de force. It is sad whenever anybody takes their own life and it is particularly tragic when suicide seems the only way out. Tony was a genius and I will miss his movies, but his legacy will live forever.

Don't usually use these tweets but hearing of the recent tragedy I could not pass by without leaving my condolences.. I remember Black Hawk Down and how that made a bench mark for visceral cinema making. Sympathies go out to the family.
