There WILL be trouble. The 2013 remake of RoboCop is looking like one of the most exciting prospects of next year. And news has reached our ears that Clive Owen, the Closer star who nearly became Bond, will be filling in for Hugh Laurie, who has stepped down from the role of the evil corporate villain.
The House star was set to play one of the head creators of the cyborg police officer in the upcoming remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi hit. But Laurie, who mastered his surly demeanour in his hit medical drama, has left the project. According to Deadline, Clive Owen is being lined up, proving that they definitely wanted a good old fashioned British villain for this one.

These originals ( including Total Recal etc..) had full on violence with a great tapestry of dark humour finely interwoven. These remakes might appeal to a new Generation of people that have grown up in a cotton wool wrapped World. In my opinion, these originals should be left alone and Hollywood should try writing fresh new material as I'm sure there's a appetite for. And for god's sake.. Stop giving us the tripe diet of rom-coms.

Am I reading correctly? the original movie actually gets better with age! and it doesnt cut straight from murphy dying to him as robocop. the viewer is actualy shown what murphy is seeing and hearing as he is being made into robocop in the form of cut scenes potraying each time he is awoken. the information given in these cut scenes gives the viewer all they need know and more (remember 'we agreed full body prosthesis' ?!). and the sense of the time passed between these various cut scenes is subtle yet present. and.. the whole movie itself is about the transition of man into machine then kinda back again, whilst still being able to be what is essentialy a sci fi revenge western with themes of duty and loss (and lets not forget the tone and details of the setting, the well conceived other characters and the genius potrayal of the OCP corporation and its place in every faset of the story.). nearly everything about the film works on more levels than i can know and is made so well even its continuity errors impress me.
the tagline it had on release said it all 'part man, part machine, all cop'. Dunno how they can be brave enough to remake the masterpiece never mind think up a new idea or suitable homage.

is it just me or cant Hollywood come up with anything original instead of ruining classics leave the originals how they are they are good the way they were and should stay like that you can't replace what these people brought to the roles so just leave all original films alone no one wants to see remakes they like the originals for what they were

I don't want to watch a PG13 remake. Apart from the lack of Mr Kinney's body exploding in a shower of bullets, all these remakes take 80s movies which had a degree of self-aware silliness. It doesn't work if you copy the basic story and then proceed to play it completely straight. We loved Nightmare on Elm Street because Freddy Krugar was downright gleeful as he conjured ironic punishments. We love Total Recall because Arnold Schwarzenegger is hilarious to listen to even when he's reacting to being beaten up - "gaarraagaahaaa!" It wasn't uncommon for us to be rolling on the floor laughing during these movies.
So screw you Hollywood for missing the point.

Just shows how greedy Hollywood has got! Its all MONEY MONEY MONEY now. What happen to being creative and bring something new and enjoyful to the screen, now its, what can we mess up now? Oh wait, Robocop needs re-doing. No it don't its a film that as stand the test of time and is still enjoyable today. I got to say, i would like to see a remake of 2001, but only because i would like to see a film more force on the story then showing off effects.
Also, i bet we will not get to see a ED-209! They ROCK!

This is the worst.... Peter Weller will always be known as Robocop, Robocop will aways be known as Peter Weller. I'd buy that for a dollar and the factor 3000 suncream, Clarence Bodicker....dead or alive you are coming with me.

original was great, later ones such as robocop 2, and especially 3 were a joke. lets just hope new version is just as gritty as the original, although i seriously doubt it. Just PLEASE leave out the cgi, it looks rubbish. Animatronics are better, and look better. Even though the original ED209 in the first film now looks like a small toy, it still told the story better and aged better than cgi ever will in my opinion.

No use complaining people.. Hollywood is in business because they are still people that go to the movies and waste their money on pointless remakes.. The only way to stop remakes or movies in general is to BOYCOTT CINEMAS.. if you do that then this plague of remakes will stop.

Why spoil the film that was Robocop and its sequels, why not call it 21st century Robocop or Robocop 4 even. Cant understand these rehashes of good films of their time as if to say "it was good but not good enough, I can make a better one" attitude. I say "get your own ideas"

BULL S***! Hollywood has no more ideas. thats why they want to re-make an other wise perfect film. Nothing is "clanky" about the dialogue in this film. Its one of the best action films of all time. Try some thing new and stop **** up the classics.
