For the MTV Movie Awards, Abrams was filmed in the editing suite in front of what looks like a clip of a Klingon, causing fans to conclude that the creatures are back. Five old-school Star Trek characters that writer Orci has confirmed will not be in the sequel, however, are: Gary Mitchell, Charlie X, Ruk, Janice Rand and The Borg.
