He's one of Hollywood's most iconic actors, but John Travolta recently revealed that he almost retired from acting after the sudden death of his 16-year-old son Jett three years ago. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, he said: 'I lost my son a few years ago and I had been having quite a time of that.

'After three years getting a lot of support from my church and a lot of support from people, fans, family, I decided that it was OK to go back to work. I'd even thought of retiring at one point, because it felt like too much.'

However, he's back in the limelight again, promoting his first movie since his son's death, Savages.

The 58-year-old actor is currently at the 60th San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain to promote the movie, which also stars the likes of Salma Hayek, Blake Lively and Benicio Del Toro.

We lost our son as well, anyone who says it gets easier with time, tells lies, it does not, you just learn how to handle it in public better. My heart goes out to you John.

We lost our son afew years ago, loosing achild although my son was 21 years of age, is the worst thing in the world to happen to anyone, without the support of friends and family, and the Army welfare berievement councillor. I would not have come through it, so all of our best wishes go out to the travolta family, for your future happiness.

So happy he has decided to go back to acting, the film industry would have lost a great icon if he had retired. Welcome back Mr Travolta

It would be a shame if someone of John's calibre were to retire from public after such a tragic time.  I would also like to send my good wishes to him and assure him he's still an icon to so many of us that our hearts would break at such sad news.  All the best for your future John and may your heart fill with joy at remembering the son you love as he was.  I have 2 daughters and can only imagine such a loss of either of them that my heart does break for you, but love endures all.   Love always Carolyn Seabrook.

As a parent of 3, loss of your child is everyones nightmare. JT you'd bin all the trappings to turn back the clock. BUT spare a thought for a moment, for the ordinary but very special parents of those UK  & USA youth who have given their lives in the political wars far away.

Not so many coffins on the news these days, but DON'T EVERY FORGET, PLEASE.
