Gary Oldman was a hot favourite for Best Actor among many attendees. But he missed out to the unstoppable strength of The Artist and Jean Dujardin. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy did, however, win Best Adapted Screenplay.

Meryl Streep  is deserving of top honours because she is such a great actress. But there must be some criteria other than acting / directing etc, because as much as I admire Ms Streep I thought best film was "The Help" and best actress was by far -  Octavia Spencer. But I don't make the choices so my opinion is not relevant.
