Bolger heads towards Poppy Hill

Sarah Bolger is set to be a voice star in the English-language remake of Japanese cartoon From Up On Poppy Hill.

The Tudors star leads a star-studded cast for the upcoming adaptation of the Studio Ghibli hand-drawn animation, which also includes Anton Yelchin, Gillian Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christina Hendricks, Ron Howard and Chris Noth.

The Irish actress will lend her voice to Umi in the coming-of-age love story, who falls in love with Shun (voiced by Anton) as they join forces to save their high school's ramshackle clubhouse from demolition.

Set in Yokohama in 1963, From Up On Poppy Hill was the top-grossing Japanese film of 2011 and the winner of the Japan Academy Prize for Animation.

Oscar-winner Gary Rydstrom will direct the English language version, from a script adaptation by Karey Kirkpatrick, with a release planned for March 2013. The Japanese movie was directed by Goro Miyazaki from a screenplay by Hayao Miyazaki.

Since portraying Princess Mary Tudor in The Tudors, Sarah, 21, has starred in the film adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles and guest stars as Aurora/Sleeping Beauty in the second season of the fairytale TV series, Once Upon A Time.

Anton - who starred opposite Felicity Jones in Like Crazy and Colin Farrell and David Tennant in Fright Night - will reprise his role as Pavel Chekov in JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness and is also rumoured to return as Clumsy Smurf in The Smurfs 2.
