Del Toro goes into Inherent Vice
Benicio del Toro will play a lawyer in Inherent Vice, according to reports
Benicio del Toro is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice.
The Oscar-winning Puerto Rican star is tipped to play a lawyer in the big-screen adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's detective novel of the same name, reported The Wrap.
The 46-year-old's character helps a private detective who dallies with drugs (played by Joaquin) stay out of legal trouble in 1970s Los Angeles.
Inherent Vice, which has reportedly had the blessing of the author, marks a reunion between The Master director Paul and lead star Joaquin.
The film-maker has written the script and will also produce and direct the movie, which will start production in coming weeks.
Benicio, whose previous film roles include Traffic, 21 Grams, Sin City and Che, has filmed his role in Terrence Malick's as-yet-untitled film.
He will also star as the title character in Arnaud Desplechin's drama Jimmy P: Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian, which will premiere at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
