Rupert Grint is set to join fellow Brit James Buckley in The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman.

The Harry Potter star - who found fame as Ron Weasley in the wizarding films - has come on board Fredrik Bond's action comedy, reported Variety.

There are no further details about Rupert or Inbetweeners star James' roles.

The film, which has been written by Project X's Matt Drake, stars Shia LaBeouf as the titular character - a hapless man who puts his life in danger when he falls in love with a woman (Evan Rachel Wood), who 'belongs' to a violent crime boss (played by Mads Mikkelsen).

Oscar winner Melissa Leo has been cast as Shia's deceased mother, while Inglourious Basterds actor Til Schweiger is to play a Serbian war criminal.

Variety also reports that Rupert will reunite with Harry Potter co-star Alan Rickman in musical biopic CBGB, looking at the rise of the famous New York nightclub and its impact on the underground punk and new wave movement.

The 23-year-old is tipped to wear the spotted trousers of Cheetah Chrome, the lead guitarist of short-lived but seminal 70s punk outfit The Dead Boys.

Alan has been cast in the role of club founder Hilly Kristal in CBGB, which Bottle Shock director Randall Miller and co-writer Jody Savin are taking control of.
