Hendricks enjoyed film challenge

Christina Hendricks has said she had no hesitations about jumping into her latest film role.

The actress, 37, best known as Mad Men's Joan Holloway, shot the indie film Ginger And Rosa in London.

The movie, about two teenage girls gripped by fear of nuclear Armageddon in Cold War-era east London, was directed by English arthouse filmmaker Sally Potter, perhaps best known for Orlando starring Tilda Swinton.

Christina, who plays the mother of one of the girls, told the Radio Times: "I loved the character in the script right away. And I've been a fan of Sally's for a long time."

She added: "I thought it was going to be a challenge for me, and an incredibly different character than I've been playing on Mad Men."

The Emmy-nominated actress added: "I think each of Sally's films has been quite different from the last and that is what's exciting about her as a filmmaker.

"She is experimenting with new things each time, and whatever style of story she wants to tell. And I would have to say this one is, for lack of a better word, more mainstream than her other films."
