Kensit: I was nearly in Batman

Patsy Kensit has revealed she auditioned for a part in the first Batman film, but lost out to Kim Basinger.

The blonde British actress - who has starred in films opposite Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford and Dudley Moore - revealed she auditioned for Tim Burton's film about the caped crusader starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as The Joker.

Patsy said: "I got called in to read for Tim Burton for a role in the first Batman film; I didn't get it obviously."

But she revealed the audition paid off as it lead to the casting director spotting her for Lethal Weapon 2.

Patsy confessed: "I though 'It'll never happen.' Two weeks later she said can you come to Warner Bros, and I turned up, walked into a room, and there was Mel Gibson, and Richard Donner the director, and Joel Silver, all sitting there.

"At that time Mel Gibson was becoming probably the biggest star on the planet, and they just asked me to cold read, and they said 'Okay. Can you get a costume and get fitted up? You start in six weeks.'

"That was like something out of a Hollywood movie actually. It never happens like that. Normally you've got to go back. Read and test and read again. That was a very unique situation.I've got to say I learned a lot doing that film. The first one was very edgy. That second one they started to bring it into the comedy a little bit more, but they were so successful those films. They made so much money."
