Dame Helen Mirren will receive an award for her contribution to European cinema
Dame Helen Mirren has revealed her "honour" of receiving an award from the European Film Academy.
The Oscar-winning star of films like The Queen, The Last Station and The Madness Of King George will be presented with the European achievement in world cinema 2012 gong for her "outstanding body" of work.
"It was discovering the immense diversity of European filmmaking that gave me an enduring love and respect for the art form. This award is therefore a very meaningful honour. I would be proud to be counted as an actor in the European tradition," she said.
Dame Helen - whose breakthrough role was in John Mackenzie's The Long Good Friday in 1980 and who previously starred in Prime Suspect - will receive her trophy at the 25th European Film Awards ceremony on December 1 in Malta.
