Ryan Phillippe is set to make his directing debut in indie thriller Shreveport.

The Cruel Intentions star will direct and star in the drama, which he co-wrote with Joe Gossett, reported Variety.

Ryan - who previously starred with Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer - will play a has-been actor who is kidnapped while on the set of a low-budget movie.

Variety reports that his character is also held hostage and tortured, but few other plot details are available.

Ryan, who has appeared in Gosford Park, Crash and I Know What You Did Last Summer, has worked with acclaimed filmmakers such as Clint Eastwood, Paul Haggis and the late Robert Altman.

Production on Shreveport is expected to start later this summer.
