Reilly: Acting enhanced video games

John C Reilly stars in new film Wreck-It Ralph
John C Reilly has claimed being good at drama helped him enjoy old-fashioned video games even more as a child.
The Oscar-nominated actor voices the lead role in new Disney animation Wreck-It Ralph, about a computer game villain who decides to jump games because he is unhappy with his role. John admitted the video games he grew up playing were very simple, but he imagined the story to be much more.
The 47-year-old star said at the world premiere of Wreck-It Ralph in Los Angeles: "Just the whole idea of the simple 8-bit video game required a lot more imagination. You had to fill in a lot of the blanks.
"Which I think for a kid who was doing a lot of plays, as I was, I think that was big draw for me. Even though those games were very simple, they drew me in with the fact that I had to fill in the blanks
John has fond memories of playing classic game Space Invaders as a child.
He said: "I suppose Space Invaders was the first big game-changer. It went from pinball games to video games with Space Invaders when I was a kid. That was probably the one I spent the most money on!"
In Wreck-It Ralph, Ralph gets fed up of destroying buildings in arcade game Fix-IT Felix Jr and goes on an adventure through different games to find a life he is happy with.
