Wahlberg's Ted tops US box office
Mark Wahlberg's new film has gone down a storm in the US
Mark Wahlberg's movie about a talking teddy bear has topped the US box office.
Comedy Ted - which was directed by Seth MacFarlane and sees the Fighter star play a man whose childhood cuddly toy has come to life and lives with him - took in 54.1 million dollars to open at No 1, according to studio estimates on Sunday.
It beat male stripper tale Magic Mike - which stars Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey - into second place.
The film, which is inspired by Channing's early career as a male stripper and features him as a veteran dancer who takes a newcomer under his wing, raked in 39.2 million dollars.
The beefcake factor of Channing, Matthew, and Alex Pettyfer strutting their stuff had women packing into cinemas - female fans made up 73 per cent of the Magic Mike crowds.
The two new movies were followed by Pixar Animation's Disney fairytale Brave, which held up well at No 3 with 34 million in its second weekend.
Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection, the latest from the dependable breadwinner for Lionsgate Films, opened solidly at No 4 with 26.4 million dollars.
